Moving to Phuket in 2026: Complete Expat Guide
Phuket has long been one of the most popular relocation destinations for expats worldwide. We cover everything you need to know — from visas to cost of living.
Visas: How to Live in Phuket Legally
Tourist Visa (TR)
The simplest option to start. 60 days + 30-day extension at the immigration office. Then — exit and re-entry (border run). Many people live this way for years, but it's legally a grey area.

- Cost: from $15,000 to $30,000 (one-time payment)
- Term: 5, 10, or 20 years with renewal option
- Includes: multiple entry throughout visa term, VIP airport service, help with document processing
- Doesn't give: right to work, permanent residency, tax benefits
LTR Visa (Long-Term Resident)
Introduced in 2022 as part of the strategy to attract wealthy foreigners.
- Requirements: passive income from $40,000/year or assets from $500,000, Thailand investments from $250,000
- Term: 10 years
- Advantages: work permit (for qualified specialists), tax benefits: income from abroad — 17% (instead of 35%)
ED Visa (Education)
You can study Thai language or martial arts — and officially live in the country.
